Niner Air 9 Carbon Mountain Bike

I recently photographed a custom made 29″ hard tail carbon fiber mountain bike. Since I am an avid mountain biker, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to capture this amazing piece of machinery, showcasing the marriage of engineering, cutting edge technology and artistic design. A Niner Air 9 Carbon Fiber, single speed, hard tail, this bike is incredibly lightweight at only 14 pounds! In fact, this bike is so light weight, that it can be picked up with two fingers. Having such large wheels and being extremely lightweight means that this mountain bike is incredibly fast. Everything about this bike is top of the line, from it’s carbon fiber frame, handlebars, pedals and crank, to it’s NC made hubs, front shock, and hydraulic seat post height adjuster. Nothing was compromised in it’s making! After completing the photo shoot, I was fortunate enough to take the bike for a ride at Issaqueena, near Clemson University. All I can say is WOW – this bike is so fast and so responsive – and with it being a single speed, I really appreciated the fact that it was so lightweight. I would love to own a mountain bike like this one someday. Hint, hint to all bike manufactures out there – how about a bike in exchange for a photo shoot?!!

Greenville Humane Society

Firewater Photography had the pleasure of photographing the new Greenville Humane Society for McMillan Pazdan Smith Architects. Several major players such as Harper Corporation, Dailey & Associates, Bonitz, and Erwin-Penland were instrumental in the creation of this amazing new facility. The bold colors and floor to ceiling black and white images are truly inspirational to it’s visitors. And not only can visitors find themselves a lovable new pet, they can also purchase a wide variety of toys and supplies. The Greenville Humane Society is equipped with a state of the art clinic, where dozens of animals are spayed and neutered each week. All of this is possible because of the generosity of local veterinarians donating their time. If someone you know is looking for a new pet, tell them to swing by The Greenville Humane Society at 305 Airport Road.

Coldwell Banker Caine Billboards

I was very excited to be involved in Coldwell Banker Caine’s latest billboard advertising campaign in the Upstate!

My image of the Greenville city skyline at sunset can be seen on 385 North, on the way into downtown Greenville. It’s just north of the Roper Mountain Road Exit, directly across from Chief’s Wings & Firewater (funny coincidence).

My image of Lake Jocassee at dusk can be seen on Clemson Boulevard. This billboard is located directly in front of Bull Feathers, on the left side of the road, just south of Interstate 85.

A big thank you to Coldwell Banker Caine for selecting Firewater Photography for this project! Hopefully these billboards bring in loads of new business.

What Is A Giclee Capture?

According to Wikipedia, Giclée (“zhee-clay”) is a neologism for the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. When a painter commissions me to produce a Giclee capture, they are looking for a high quality digital capture that can be used to make additional prints of their artwork. A Giclee also provides the artist with a way to digitally archive their work if they are selling the original, and comes in handy for the artist’s website, Facebook page, email marketing, and printed promotional materials.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the most talented artists in Greenville, SC. Over the years, I’ve set up my studio countless times, perfecting the lighting and capturing each artist’s creations to the best of my ability. Below are Giclee captures that I’ve done for Wanda Williams (aka Noni), Robert Buntin and Craig King. Each of these artists has inspired me to continue doing what I love!

2011 Spinx Charity Classic

Sunday, April 24th, marked the kickoff of the 2011 Spinx Charity Classic, with a private party at Devereaux’s in downtown Greenville, followed by a fun day of golfing at one of three exclusive country clubs including Chanticleer, Riverside and Thornblade Golf Courses. The Spinx Charity Classic benefits the local community by raising money to help support The American Red Cross Upstate Chapter, Hands on Greenville, Julie Valentine Center, Loaves & Fishes and Junior Achievement. Monica and myself were invited to attend after submitting several pieces of fine art photography for the Silent Auction at Devereaux’s. Many thanks to Melody Hudson at Spinx, for inviting us to partake in this wonderful cause.

Up In The Air

Recently, I photographed the Surfside Beach Fire Station in South Myrtle Beach. What an outstanding structure – the architecture and design blend perfectly with coastal living. Early in the planning stages, there was talk of me shooting some low level aerial photographs from the top of the ladder truck. Lucky for me, Captain Packard gave us the go ahead.

We were using a brand new, state of the art firetruck, complete with all the bells and whistles, which included a 104′ ladder and bucket. It was a beautiful day and we had a blast!

Our tour guide was Lt. Faulkenberry, who did a great job maneuvering “The Monster”, as they called it. Mike Pry, the talented architect from DP3 Architects in Greenville, SC, also enjoyed the view of his creation from more than 100 feet in the air.

Kris Decker Took 1st Place & The People’s Choice Best of Show!

Kris Decker won 2 awards at the Art+Architecture 2011 Photography Competition! He took 1st place in the Partial Building category and was award the People’s Choice Best of Show for his piece, “Out to Sea” which depicts one of the many amazing structures found along Main Street in downtown Greenville, SC. Considered one of the best Architectural Photographers in the Southeast, Kris Decker enjoys capturing distinctive angles from his own unique perspective. Though most well known for his Architectural Photography, Kris has always enjoyed capturing Fine Art Photography, and took great pride in winning these awards for successfully combining the two areas of photography he enjoys most. The exhibit will consist of architecturally themed photographs taken within a 40 mile radius of the Greenville area. Artists are encouraged to look beyond the whole building to its aspects or component parts. Images will focus on textures, details, the way the building has aged or weathered, the way it interacts with users, or the way the sun or rain hits it. Photographs will highlight what we take for granted so that viewers may find a new appreciation for the buildings they pass everyday. This event is part of Upstate Visual Arts’ commitment of outreach to other local organizations and we are pleased to be a part of Architecture Month in Greenville presented in part by the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
